Peace & Life Referendums

Referendums Voting Against Violence Peace Pro-life

This website tracks U.S. state and local referendums dealing with socially-approved killing of human beings (abortion, the death penalty, euthanasia, war), or related structural violence that leads to killing (poverty and discriminatory practices).

These are the issues focused on by the Consistent Life Network, the sponsor of this website.

Links are included for sponsoring organizations when passing the referendums would advance the goals of the consistent life ethic.

We also include referendums we’d like to see get a strong “no” vote. Defeating objectionable referendums is crucial.

These markers are used for upcoming referendums. They’re replaced with other images once the election has happened.

We offer education and insights on why it would help if certain referendums were passed or others defeated. We encourage everyone to use this in:

social media
letters to the editor
questions in candidate forums
conversations with friends and family
and any other place they can be useful for persuasion

Amarillo Proposition A

Sanctuary City for the Unborn

on ballot: November 5, 2024
result lost with 59.5% voting no

See our Texas page.

Because this measure provided for extreme measures such as restricting travel, a feature that could be seen as overly harsh, and Amarillo is in a state that already bans abortions, we’re not assigning this a “tragically, failed” image. The concept of “sanctuary cities for the unborn” can be a good one when done well.

Here we offer measures that oppose discrimination on the basis of race, gender, disability, etc. Individuals in marginalized communities deserve dignity and protection.

Practices of dehumanizing can be lethal, and even when they’re less than lethal, they can be one of the root causes leading to violence against the targeted population.

Abolishing all slavery: Nevada (2024)

California Proposition 6, Remove Involuntary Servitude as Punishment for Crime Amendment, should have been on our list because of our concern for finally abolishing slavery. It received so little publicity that we didn’t know about it. Ballotpedia doesn’t have an easily-found page listing all the referendums as it does on several other topics. Kentucky Referendums

Unfortunately, the amendment was defeated, 47-53%.
