Reproductive Freedom Amendment
Hoped for Ballot: Not clear
The Ballotpedia page for this is not yet established at this writing.
Current Status: On December 21, 2022, state senators filed Senate Joint Resolution 8202, which would amend the state constitution to declare abortion as a right. A hearing was held January 24, 2023.
It reads:
“The state shall not deny or interfere with an individual’s reproductive freedom decisions, which includes the individual’s fundamental right to choose to have an abortion and the individual’s fundamental right to choose to use contraception.”
We regard a vote “no” as helpful to the goal of ending violence.
Abortion isn’t Freedom for Women
Setting aside the violence (and therefore lack of equal protection) done to unborn children, a point which proponents of this measure steadfastly ignore, the rhetoric they use about women also steadfastly ignores harm done.
