This page will list the results of all the referendums we’re tracking soon after the November 5 election. So far, there’s been one measure already voted on this year:
Missouri Property Tax Exemption for Childcare Establishments
on Ballot: August 6, 2024
See Ballotpedia page.
Current status: Lost with a 54.7% No vote.
On the ballot, it said that the Blind Pension Fund might lose up to $600,000, which could have led to “no” votes from people who had that reasonable concern.
The PostRoeFuture.com list of policy needs, signed by many prominent pro-life leaders, of “policies that should be broadly embraced by the pro-life movement and advanced by elected officials” includes “Affordable childcare options that support working parents.” It’s usually included on other lists as well as crucial for life-affirming services. Removing a major expense could help make childcare more affordable and more available.
What are the best policies for providing high-quality childcare? Individual referendums don’t answer that question. They offer one possibility, and voters select yes or no. We encourage a “yes” vote on any policy that could help.
But the idea, as expressed on the ballot, that this could lower the Blind Pension Fund by $600,000 would obviously be a strong mark against this measure.
